John Duffield
Senior partner
John Duffield has founded and chaired two of the best known businesses in the UK fund management industry, Jupiter Asset Management and New Star Asset Management. Founded in 1985, Jupiter grew its assets to £14 billion under John’s stewardship. From inception in 2001, New Star’s funds grew to a peak of £24.7 billion in June 2007. Under John’s stewardship, Jupiter and New Star received approximately 200 investment awards between 1995 and 2009.
Rupert Ruvigny
Finance and operations partner
Prior to joining Brompton, Rupert Ruvigny was finance director of New Star Asset Management. Previously, he was deputy chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ financial services regulatory practice. After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1984, he was made a partner of Price Waterhouse in 1992, specialising in investment management and regulation. He was seconded to IMRO as the director of monitoring and investigations.
Michael Astor
Technical partner
Before joining Brompton, Michael Astor fulfilled the same role at New Star Asset Management and at Jupiter Asset Management. At New Star, he was responsible for systems integration and development during a period of rapid expansion resulting from organic growth and a series of acquisitions. He joined Jupiter from the electronics industry having studied engineering and economics.
John Jay
Business development partner
Prior to joining Brompton, John Jay was New Star Asset Management’s development director, joining the company at its inception in 2001 after a 21-year career in journalism. He was City editor of the Sunday Times in 1986, became City and business editor of the Sunday Telegraph in 1989 and was appointed managing editor of the Sunday Times’ business section in 1995. At New Star, John had board level responsibility for private clients.
Gill Lakin
Chief investment officer and Head of private clients
Gill Lakin has 23 years’ experience in investment. Prior to joining Brompton, Gill was chief investment officer at Thornhill Investment Management, where she managed the investment team, with responsibility for the investment process including asset allocation and fund selection. Earlier in her career, Gill was a senior fund manager and head of UK equity research at Société Générale Asset Management having worked previously at Prudential Portfolio Managers, where she ran two retail funds. A graduate of Somerville College, Oxford, she also holds an MSc from the London Business School.
Stuart Webster
Head of Real Estate funds
Before joining Brompton, Stuart was New Star’s Head of Global Property, responsible for international funds. Prior to New Star, he was with Citigroup Property Investors, where he was Chief Investment Officer for Europe, responsible for core and core plus funds and Shari’ah-compliant funds. He has more than 25 years’ experience in property investment in the UK, Continental Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Stuart is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
